Road–rail vehicle, also called hi-rail, from highway and railway, is kind of dual-mode vehicle which run on rail tracks and a conventional road. When road rail vehicles converting from rail to road, keeping their normal wheels with rubber tires, but fitted with additional flanged steel wheels for running on rails. Propulsion is typically through the conventional tires, the flanged wheels being free-rolling; the rail wheels are raised and lowered as needed. Purpose-built road–rail vehicles also exist.
Rail road wheels, means wheels used for road-rail vehicles, normally smaller than rolling stock (locomotives or carriages, metro, mining vehicles) wheels. This is because the wheel has to be stored clear of the ground when the vehicle is in road-going mode.
Diameter from 130 to 750mm( 4 inches to 30 inches, some are smaller), materials can be Aluminum, steel(42CrMo, 4140, CL60, etc), as per standard for infrastructure maintenance vehicle wheels.
Most rail road wheels are forged, some revised from casting for longer life span and cost economical. We assist customer to revise design for various types of casting wheels to forging, removed reinforcing rib, changed design to forging and suitable for forging, while saving cost at the same time.
